Hi, How Can We Help You?

NAATI CCL (Credentialed Community Language)

Language Skills Assessment

Specific types of visas entail specific arrangements that the applicant needs to make. Expert Education can help you determine the papers, documentation and tests required from your end.

When it concerns a point-based visa application to study in Australia, the applicant may choose to undertake (community) language skills assessment in their native language, if they wish. Upon successfully passing the test, applicants are awarded five points towards their PR application.

This assessment is called the Credentialed Community Language or CCL, and the National Accreditation Authority administers it for Translators and Interpreters Ltd (NAATI). CCL assesses the language abilities of the applicant at a community level.

These points are also referred to as Credentialed Community Language Points. Candidates should seek confirmation from the Department of Home Affairs or a migration agent regarding their eligibility at the time of application.

What does the test include?

NAATI CCL is an online test delivered from Monday to Friday.

The test consists of two dialogue recordings. The recording includes a conversation between a native English speaker and a native Language Other Than an English speaker, also known as LOTE.

There are several topics, ranging from business to consumer affairs, health, legal matters, community, housing, finance, etc. They all represent real-life situations in Australian society. These dialogues are used to test the candidate’s ability to understand both languages while communicating in them.

A minimum of two examiners will assess your tests individually.

Here are a few TO-DOs for you to follow during the test.

  • While interpreting what has been said, account for the style in which the dialogue has been delivered. Understand the nuances and subtleties of the language, and do not interpret the tone or language robotically.
  • Once you hear the dialogue while interpreting, stick to the same tense. Pay attention to word clusters, singular and plural forms, etc.
  • Make sure that you cover whatever is being said. So take notes of what is said and avoid any omissions when interpreting from source to the target language.
